NYLCV Statement on the Suffolk County Quality Restoration Act

(May 23, 2024)Today is a great day for the people of Suffolk County. After decades of enduring nitrogen-polluted ground and surface waters and with so many homes in need of a septic system replacement or a transition to sewers, the Suffolk County Water Quality Restoration Act will finally empower residents to comprehensively address this public health crisis in their communities.

Water quality is a long-standing top priority for the League and we are proud to have joined with residents and elected officials, along with business, labor, and environmental groups in uniting behind this 2024 NYLCV Scorecard bill.

We applaud bill sponsors Senator Martinez and Assemblymember Thiele, as well as Suffolk County Executive Romaine and the county legislature for their support, and we salute Governor Hochul for her bold leadership on the issue of water quality on Long Island and across the state. We look forward to working with county officials in the coming weeks as they move to get this critical public health measure on the ballot.
