Newsday columnist Ellis Henican has named the New York League of Conservation Voters "Long Islanders of the week" for our public-policy Blueprint for a Greener Long Island.

Newsday columnist Ellis Henican applauded NYLCV's support for downtown revitalization projects and transit-oriented development.Saying that policy agendas can sometimes be totally irrelevant, NYLCV's is quite the opposite and "has just done it right," Henican wrote. He singled out the philosophy behind our Long Island plan as "a smart, specific agenda for boosting LI's economy and environment together."

NYLCV's Blueprint for a Greener Long Island was released last week and can be downloaded in its entirety here. It sets standards for county, city and town action in five key areas: sustainable economic development, climate adaptation, natural-resource protection, cleaner energy and water quality.

Progress in these areas will also factor into NYLCV's endorsements when we evaluate candidates seeking our support next year.
