Despite overwhelming scientific evidence, U.S. Rep. Buerkle claims “the jury is still out” on climate change.Despite overwhelming scientific evidence, U.S. Rep. Buerkle claims “the jury is still out” on climate change. The national League of Conservation Voters has named U.S. Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle one of top targets for defeat at the voting booth this fall.

LCV named Buerkle to its "Flat Earth Five" list -- making her one if the top five deniers of climate change in the House of Representatives. The organization has launched a $1.5 million campaign to see to the defeat of these five representatives, named so for their outright denial of basic scientific fact.

Buerkle, who represents the 25th Congressional District that included Syracuse and the eastern suburbs of Rochester, earned her spot amongst these five for declaring global warming a "myth."

Following this week's announcement that Buerkle had been targeted for her extreme anti-environment views, her campaign manager went on the defensive, insisting that Buerkle "has always supported clean air and clean water," neatly sidestepping the issue of climate change.

LCV has given her a lifetime score of just 9 out of 100 for her consistently poor performance on environmental issues.
