First Long Island Earth Summit

Good science and strong advocacy came together on Tuesday, at the first-ever Long Island Earth Summit.

Among the most pressing issues discussed were  water quality and clean  energy.Among the most pressing issues discussed were water quality and clean energy.Held a Brookhaven National Laboratory, the Earth Summit featured four informative environmental workshops on Long Island’s most pressing issues, a panel discussion, a green car expo, a tour of the East Coast's largest solar farm and a keynote speech from Dr. Ellen Pikitch of the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences at Stony Brook, Institute for Ocean Conservation Science.

The event was organized by Citizens Campaign for the Environment, one of NYLCV's environmental partner organizations. 

Among the top priority issued discussed at the summit were Long Island's beaches and bays, drinking water, energy and development.

Building on all the environmental attention for Long Island, NYLCV will soon issue our Long Island Policy Agenda. This document is a green checklist that will give local elected officials a clear roadmap for greening Long Island's municipalities.
