Westchester Bee Line Buzzes Over Bike RacksSubmitted by Elizabeth Mooney on Thu, 2009-04-16 16:01.
Weestchester County cyclists who want to ride their wheels to the bus depot may soon have lockers for storing their bicycles at the transit center in downtown White Plains, the Journal News reported.
In addition to placing them at the bus depot in White Plains, Salley said the county could use its intermunicipal agreement for use of the New Rochelle Transit Center to place bike lockers there. Another possibility would be putting them in the county-owned lot near the North White Plains train station. Bike racks on buses, another suggestion by cycling advocates, are another story altogether. The commissioner and Jerry D'Amore, president of Liberty Lines, which runs the county's Bee-Line buses, said they are concerned about how bike racks would affect bus schedules and possibly impede operations. County Legislator Peter Harckham, D-Katonah, said he felt the problems could be overcome, especially since he had found that hundreds of bus systems across the country already have installed bike racks on their vehicles. |
