Under the new bill, public buildings like Syracuse's City Hall will be made more energy efficient A new bill calling for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in Onondaga County has been submitted to the Environmental Protection Committee for discussion, according to the Post-Standard. The legislation, sponsored by County Legislator Tom Buckel, D-Syracuse, and backed by several nonprofits, including NYLCV, urges the county executive to consider 12 ideas for combating global warming, including setting emissions reduction targets, improving public transportation, retrofitting public buildings, and curbing suburban sprawl. Each year, the county executive will have to report any progress made on the initiatives to the Legislature. |
