Broadwater Energy, the company behind a proposal for a liquefied natural gas terminal on Long Island Sound, is vowing to press ahead with its plans despite Gov. David Paterson's opposition.

According to Newsday, Broadwater says it has a "number of options" and that it will fully review the governor's decision and findings -- also announced Thursday -- and then will evaluate the next steps. They could include appealing the state's decision to the U.S. Department of Commerce and going to court.

Gov. Paterson outlined the initial steps his administration will take to meet the growing demand for energy on the island. The governor outlined his concerns about the Broadwater proposal, including questions over whether a large section of the sound should be turned over to a private company and the assertion that other energy solutions exist in the region.
