Niagara County Backs Use Of Renewable Energy

Submitted by Michelle Subbiondo on Thu, 2008-02-28 13:26.

Minority Leader Dennis F. Virtuoso, D-Niagara Falls, at the request of the Working Families Party, introduced a resolution to the Niagara County Legislature on Tuesday committing to a discussion of whether Niagara Falls should consider buying a percentage of its electricity from renewable sources, according to the Buffalo News.

Although the state government and some municipalities have set targets to reduce the purchase of energy generated by fossil fuels by 2010, the current resolution before the Niagara Legislature doesn't set any mandates at this time. The self-proclaimed "green county" has, however, passed several other laws committing to environmentally friendly practices.

The Legislature will begin its debate over the measure at an upcoming meeting.
