According to Newsday, the Department of State indicated the decision was ""by mutual agrement...to allow for further discussion of what is a very complex proposal." Neither side would comment about specific concerns or reasons for the deadline extension beyond that. Broadwater Energy is hoping to build a liquefied natural gas terminal on a ship-like vessel in Long Island Sound. Its construction and questions about its impact on the environment and its security have become the focus of a heated debate on Long Island. |
