Spitzer's Energy Team Eyes Clean Sources For Article X

Submitted by Dan Hendrick on Thu, 2008-01-24 17:37.

Gov. Eliot Spitzer's top energy official on Wednesday told energy industry representatives that "all new clean power-generation sources" could be included in a new version of power-plant siting legislation.

According to the Times Union, the statement could indicate a subtle shift in the administration's policy, although a spokesman for the governor said that no decision has been made to change last year's position.

Paul DeCotis, the deputy secretary for energy, did not make reference to which energy sources could be on the negotiating table. Last year, disagreements over nuclear and coal plants blocked approval of a new Article X -- the power-plant siting law, which expired in 2003.

Reforming Article X is a critical part of NYLCV's 2008 State Policy Agenda
