State Role In Indian Point License Review Encouraged

Submitted by Kate Hajjar on Wed, 2007-12-12 11:57.

Newsday editorializes about Attorney General Cuomo's action to get involved in the process of determining the fate of Indian Point. The nuclear plant's licenses expire in 2013 and 2015. The state filed a petition to prevent license renewal citing "leaks of tritium and strontium into the groundwater and possibly the Hudson, inadequate plans for evacuation, and unacceptable vulnerability to earthquakes or terrorist attacks" as the main areas of concern.

Newsday points out that if the two nuclear reactors at Indian Point to close, the bigger question of how to replace the 2,000 megawatts of power they currently provide the state remains unanswered.
