Green Buildings, Sea Level Rise Task Force Approved

Submitted by Dan Hendrick on Thu, 2007-06-21 11:34.

There are two successes to report from Albany this morning: the State Senate voted to create the Sea Level Rise Task Force and passed the State Green Building Construction Act.

The New York State Sea Level Rise Task Force will analyze the threat posed by rising sea levels and develop recommendations for mitigation. The task force will report its findings to the governor, Senate majority leader and the Assembly speaker by the end of 2009.

The State Green Building Construction Act requires all new construction and substantial renovation projects undertaken by any state agency to meet the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver rating. The Senate version of this bill differs from the Assembly version in terms of which agency will write the regulations. The Assembly and Senate are expected to settle the issue before the widely-expected special session.
