Brewer on NYC Traffic CongestionSubmitted by Stacy Feldman on Mon, 2007-02-12 15:29.
Gale Brewer (NYC Council) has introduced into the council her new "Traffic Information and Relief Bill" (Intro. 199). In a piece she wrote for the Gotham Gazette, she argues that if adopted, her bill would develop the metrics needed to set reasonable congestion relief targets. In a new report, the League has just urged the Bloomberg administration to address the city's congestion through investments in public transport --- to increase the city's contribution to the MTA's operating budget and to its capital construction plan. On the state level, we've asked the governor to proritize funds for diesel retrofits; instruct the MTA to install high-speed EZ pass at all crossings; and to invest in transit-oriented development that encourages mass transit ridership.
