As a member of the Land Use Committee on Community Board Six, Powers has experience working on issues such as development, parks, and open space, and plans to bring this expertise to the City Council. Powers was a strong advocate for the single bag tax and has supported efforts to improve or expand eco-friendly bus service along 14th Street in anticipation of the L train shutdown.
If elected to the City Council, Keith Powers promises to be committed to environmental issues. He has crafted a thorough plan for public transportation that will create safer streets, traffic-free bus options along 14th street, and it will prioritize the Second Avenue subway while also looking for ways to utilize ferries and waterways. As an advocate for healthy foods in schools, he hopes to expand the FRESH program to expand access to fresh food in low-income communities. He has also released an innovative proposal to install floating solar panels on bodies of water such as the Central Park Reservoir.
