LI Senators Oppose Congestion Pricing

Mayor Bloomberg met bi-partisan resistance yesterday when he went to speak to LI Senators in Albany to lobby for (among other things) congestion pricing, which proposes a $8 charge for cars and $21 for trucks if they drive south of 86th Street, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays. The fees would be used to expand mass transit in addition to cleaning up air pollution and alleviate traffic woes.

Kaplowitz Declares

Westchester County Legislator Michael Kaplowitz (who is of no relation to this blogger) announced yesterday that he will run again for his seat in the legislature for the sixth time.

Kaplowitz represents New Castle, Somers, and parts of Yorktown.

Group to Propose a Redo of Yonkers Waterfront Plan

Scenic Hudson is reaching out to community groups and residents in Yonkers to talk about the city's proposed waterfront development plans.

At issue is the waterfront development master plan that was released in November 2006 that calls for developing 4,000 units of housing and retail along the city's 4 1/2 -mile stretch of riverfront.

Two DEC Regions Have New Leaders

Suzanne Mattei and Willie Janeway were appointed yesterday by DEC Commissioner Pete Grannis as the respective Region 2 and Region 3 DEC Directors.

Region 2 serves New York City's five boroughs and Region 3 serves Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, and Westchester counties.
