Smith: Ban Toxic Dry Cleaning Chemical

The NYS Senate is considering a bill to ban the dangerous substance PERC, which is used in auto repair shops and dry cleaners.

The chemical, also known as tetrachloroethene, has been found to cause cancer and nervous system ailments. It leaked into well water in Queens this past month, and State Senate Minority Leader Malcolm Smith has proposed a ban on the substance.
